Embellish Your Fabrics With Shiva Artist’s Paintstiks

The Challenge
Shelly Stokes, President of Cedar Canyon Textiles, challenged her small quilt group to make some goodies using her products and mine. Shelly sells the Shiva Artist’s Paintstiks, and all things needed to paint on fabric. This includes the Paintstiks (paint in the form of a crayon), rubbing plates, stencils, brushes and a great DVD. You can see all of this on her website here.
Shelly painted some beautiful Burmese silk fabrics and collected some Oliver Twist fiber bundles. Together with my patterns, these are the items Shelly’s group made for her.

Joan, I took your patterns and an idea to my small quilt group, and they are ready to roll. I need to paint up a bunch of fabric for them. They loved the idea of a small challenge, especially something from simple patterns. Should be fun!

I purchased a bunch of Burmese silk and will make up a batch of kits of fabrics that have paintstik rubbings as well as some Oliver Twist fiber bundles as they were excited about those. The ladies in the group agreed that they would make a simple item from one of your Lazy Girl patterns. We’ll see how the experiment turns out. – Shelly

I’d say the experiment was a success! I love the items Shelly’s group made.
What To Paint?
Fabrics that read as solids work the best. Embellish your fabircs, then heat set the paint if desired, and make something wonderful. Most things that can be decorated with stencils are good candidates for Paintstik fun. From ready-made apparel to home dec and accessories. I have a few simple scarves and wraps that have Paintstiks in their futures.

It looks like this woman is selling Lazy Girl Bags in her booth-is she? I had a woman ask me to make her some Chelsea Bags (for selling) which she fell in love with and I had to turn her down because I thought Joan forbade that.

Oh what gorgeous bags! My favs have to be the Katy bags with the covered button and stitching! Though the first Wonder Wallet with rust and gold is awesome! I happened to have bought a full set of those shiva irradescents and rubbing plates at festival this year. These are perfect small projects to work with Shivas. Beautiful work!!
Just as I was sending my “lazy in training” sisters the pic of the wonder wallet with the paintsticks, you come up with this blog post. Thanks for helping me to further inspire them! They have a stash of the sticks in the store from selling paper stenciling supplies, and now I think I have them dreaming in new directions with them. Now to get them some Lazy Girl patterns and we will be all set. Hmmm – wonder how much of the store Lazy Sister Sue and I can get them to convert over to fabric and patterns????
I would really like to know where to get the shells (charm/Button) that are on the runaround bag. I have been looking everywhere for those kind of shell for along time.

I HAVE PURCHASED SEVERAL OF THE PAINSTIKS AND RUBBING PLATES. I would like to do designs on ready made shirts but, have no idea and how to start. Are there any sites that have shirts as examples?
