Face Mask, quick, easy, above average fit, by Tom Bihn– I suspect this has a really good fit due to bias cut/edges, stretching where needed as it meets the face.
Face Mask with ties, to fit over N95 mask, A.B. Mask by a Nurse– I’ve made dozens of these with elastic ear loops cut to 6.5″. Eliminate ties by sewing right sides together, leave an opening to turn. Then pleat and topstitch to finish.

Friends of quilter Susie Stiving made gowns for her during her from her favorite quilt fabrics for her long hospital stays and the gowns lifted her spirits.
We thought you might like to make a hospital gown for a loved-one. So, we have two free gown patterns available for your use.
Consider making a shawl, wrap or lap sized quilt to go along with the gown for times when a little more warmth is needed.
I turned on my computer this morning and there was an email from you. I was delighted to get it. In the last l2 days I have come to look forward to your email and the new pattern. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing Susie’s story. I knew about the hospital gown pattern, but had not heard the story that goes with it. And as for you being as “pliable as conditioned polymer clay,” wherever did you come up with that simile?
Cecile

Hi Cecile,
Well, as for my polymer clay comment – I know I am a softy and a push-over, but I am a little more solid than Play-Doh. Conditioned polymer clay seemed like the right amount of ‘softy’ to me. I credit you and Carol Duvall for my knowing what that is.

Hi Joan, I found your hospital gown pattern in an Internet search–maybe you could help me find what I want for my friend entering weeks of radiation treatment soon. I would like a gown that is filled with brightness and life and celebrates our gratitude for our daily life; and, of course, it would have to be free of snaps or other metals and otherwise not interfere with irridation treatments. I suppose I am asking for a style, pattern, gaity of print, crazy color combination, richness of fabric or other description–maybe you could help me with an over-the-top design that would add to her spirit and have the other patients in the radiology lab envious of my friend. thanks, David
Hello Joan, Thank you so much for sharing your hospital gown pattern online….. I care for my elderly mother in law who lives with me. Today the aid and I could hardly get her night shirt off due to stiffness for her bath. I had to go to plan B… I looked online and found your pattern, printed it out and made her a gown that meets her needs. My mother in law is confined to her bed and I am confined to my house for her care. It is Wonderful to have this pattern at my fingertips. Thanks again for helping to meet our needs at this time.

I am so excited to see this pattern, I am going to make my daughter some. We still use hospital gown at home since she is wheelchair bound and in bed they are easier to take off and on but they are drafty and I think these will work great. Thanks for sharing.
I love the thought of making my own hospital gowns, I have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer and have under gone surgery a few times, I have another coming up soon. The Dr said it will be at least a week in the hospital. This will be perfect…. I think I am going to make my own and take with me, they will definately be a lot more cheerful.
I would like to know if your hospital gown pattern is one the has shoulder snaps. Thank you!
Thank you so much for the hospital gown patterns. I will be making som for adults and children. This is something that nursing facilities can also use.
Thank you so much for offering this free pattern. My sister-in-law, who is also my best friend, is in an extended hospital stay experiencing some serious complications with her pregnancy with QUINTUPLETS and I’m using your pattern to make gowns for her that will hopefully lift her spirits. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for the hospital gown pattern. My mother, age 84, is refusing to go have a test done because she has to put on a gown. She’s very focussed on how she looks, so I plan to make this as fashionable as possible. Knowing her, she will not only have the test, but will show off her special gown. Again thank you so much!
Nothing comes up when I hit the download button
Hello this is my first time attempting sewing a hospital gown for my niece. However, she is a 2x . How would I be able to enlarge your pattern?
Thanks so much! I used your pattern to make hospital gowns for my sister. They turned out great! I did modify by using ribbon with snaps for the shoulder/sleeve area. Truly appreciate your pattern with instructions and shopping list.
Thank you so much for the pattern. My mom at 93 is in hospice care now and their gown are depressing so I am excited to make some bright Happy fun gowns for her.
I would love the pattern to this hospital gown, it’s not on your site any longer
Hi Stephanie, Thanks for asking about this. The hospital gown pattern is still available on our site. Just use the ‘Search’ box to find all of the posts and product info to get all the info for these free adult and child gown patterns.
HI, I am struggling making the child’s small hospital gown. I’m not sure where the ribbons on the back side should look like. Can you please post a picture for me? I am a visual person.
Thank you.
Hi Denise, Take a look at page 10 of the pattern PDF. It includes two ‘X’ marks where the ties are attached for the mid-back. There are also ties at the neck. Transfer those marks from the pattern to the cut fabric pieces. To do so, place that page on top of the cut fabric piece. Poke a pin through the ‘X’ into the fabric, lift the pattern piece, then use a marking tool to place a mark where the pin enters the fabric. Do this for both ‘X’ marks. One mark goes on the left back, one on the right.
Does the note about the seam allowance mean that I need to make a seam allowance or is it already in the pattern?
Hi Axel, The pattern includes the seam allowance. You do not need to add a seam allowance past the edge of the drawn pattern.
How kind of you to share your talent! I just made a gown for my husband who is recovering from open heart surgery. So difficult to find a “nice” gown that is made with comfortable material. Thank you!
Hello! I am a member of the Artisan’s Asylum in Somerville MA. Some of us are making masks for local health care sites, including clinics and hospitals, which are woefully low on supplies during this crisis. I have heard they are also low on hospital gowns so may be giving this a try, using bedsheets as fabric. Suggestions and advice are welcome.
Gowns and masks requested by Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
Hi there,
Is this gown open in the back? Or do you slip it on more like a tunic?
Thanks!
Nora (Pediatrician in CA)
Hi Nora, Both the child and adult size gowns open in the back and have ties to hold closed.
Thank you so much for the help.
We have been task to make level 3 protective gowns for hospitals.
Your patterns have saved us critical manufacturing time
We have two nurses in our family My daughter Angelita Ungericht has been in contact with both of them. This morning she brought to my attention that due to the shortage of masks, the ladies were reusing their masks. Since I am a senior and restricted to my home, my sweet daughter went shopping for material and ribbon. We redesigned a mask pattern and immediately started making mask. We plan to mail a supply to our nurse relatives. We are also making a supply to share with friends and family In Flower Mound Texas. Thank you for your contributions to our efforts.

Thanks so much! I’ll make some for residential facilities for people with disabilities.
I am looking for a pattern for a cover up that the EMT’s can use. It would need to have long sleeves. Do you have anything that can help me?
Thank You
Do you by chance have long sleeved gown for caregivers? I got your pattern then realized it’s not long sleeve and o don’t trust myself to add that on!! Adult size only. Thank you
Mary Ann, There is a link for an isolation gown pattern on the Hospital Gown page at my site.
Nancy, There is a link for an isolation gown pattern on the Hospital Gown page at my site.
Thank you for the patterns. It is very generous of you to give these away for free. I hope to sew as much as I possibly can for donating to the Covid-19 crisis. Warm regards to you!
Thank you! Sewing for retina specialist group!
I have made the Lazy Girl adult gown. It was pretty easy and turned out very nice!
I am needing larger sized isolation gown patterns. I’m a nurse with Trellis Supportive Care in Winston-Salem, NC. We’re a Hospice organization and I work with some of the finest people on earth. One of them needs a 4X sized isolation gown, which I’m willing to make, but I need a larger pattern.
Any suggestions on where I can get one?
Thank you so much for the free patterns. Our CNAs, nurses, chaplains, social workers, etc will appreciate any help
Thank you so much.My local hospital will be so shocked when I I deliever them .
Thank you for making these resources so easy to find! Using the surgical gown pattern to make gowns for the staff at my mom’s retirement community, where they’re having trouble getting PPE. Thanks again!
spent the last 3 weeks in hospital in a small town in BC Canada – I am a large woman and they had only 2 large gowns available in fabric so worn they are almost see through – I plan on using my stash and making at least 10 to donate to the hospital bad enough feeling terrible without feeling ridiculously fat
I came across this pattern in looking for hospital gown patterns for my parents (ages 94 and 87) who are living in a senior living compound. Their memory care facility cannot obtain hospital gowns for those that need them. I want to help them, as I did with their masks request. This is a pattern I think will be easy to make and mail to them as I finish them.
Need to make for my mother in law, who has had a fracture in thigh bone and hospitilised
Thank you for this pattern. My mum is in long term care and needs a light weight cotton gown to keep her cool, something that is fresh and fun but easy for her aids to out on her.
I’m hoping this pattern can be adapted to work for her.
With gratitude
Louise
Thank you so much. Was looking for an easy open back gown for my live-in 99yr. Mother. So much easier for the aides and I can use nice material.
Thanks for sharing.
Hello, I’m excited to find this pattern.
I have a question about fit. I am a very small framed adult and the adult sized gowns are always falling off of me. What would be the best way to resize the child or adult pattern to better work for my 5’3″ length yet adequately fit my 34″ at my widest measure.
Helen, Use a shirt or piece of clothing that fits you as a guide or reference to make adjustments.
Hi! Do you think this would work to make with a stretch jersey fabric?
