Show and Tell: More Maggie Frenzy!

From Sauni-Rae, of my Yahoo group: I just finished a Mini Miranda using scraps from a quilt and I love it. Made 2 large Maggies to go with it. The girls will be going to my student observer (soon to be student teacher)…from the class to say thanks for all she did.

Mary Miller of Springfield, Ohio, sent this picture of some Maggies she made using Moda’s Gypsy Rose fabric line. Look at those tiny swivel clasps! Cute!
Here’s Mary Edwards-Hildebrand to tell us about her creations below: Ok, gals, this is a first attempt at Miss Maggie. Got the pattern last night and made this in about an hour. Yep, need to work on sewing a straight line for sure! This one has my 2nd gen iPod and headset (with a cord reel) inside so it’s plenty roomy. Maggie is sooooo easy to make! This weekend will make a couple to coordinate with my Gracie bag. Thanks for wonderful patterns! Even for those of us who are sewing challenged!
I made both sizes Maggie to coordinate with her Gracie Bag. I’m using these for my iPhone and headset… I tuck the headset inside little Maggie, then tuck that into Big Maggie. No more crazy wire all over the place and it’s all together!
Okay, here it is… I still haven’t embellished the closure yet, but will. I love that I can make bags to fit MY life, colors I love, etc. I am also one of those “the more pockets the better” people as I love to find things easily. I also love fabric so this could also be a problem! A new reason to frequent the fabric store!

One of the gals in my Yahoo group, who goes by tonca, posted the collection of Maggies she’s been working on. Look at all of those beautiful fabrics!
Niki Croft of Texas set a goal to make 50 Wonder Wallets for gifts this season. Not sure how far she is but I’m guessing she’s going to make it.

i love the buttons but how to sew them on top of the velcro??
Hi Margaret, I usually sew the buttons on by machine. To sew them by hand, slide your needle from side to side (needle almost lays on the fabric) across the fabric below the button, just catching the fabric and batting a bit. Don’t sew up and down through the fabric/batting/Velcro. Joan
Margaret, when I do Wonder Wallets I sew the button on first and then put the top velcro piece on after, utilizing a pressing cloth. So far so good, no buttons have been harmed in this experiment. I’ve made 30 Wonder Wallets for gifts this year so far. I think Maggies are going to be next year! Yay!
I love Jeannie’s red Maggie! What is the name of that fabric? It’s beautiful.
OK, Guys, I need a bit of help. I love this pattern and have read the blog and bought the suggested Pellon fusible fleece,fusible interfacing, and fusion Velcro.. Does everyone fuse the fleece or interfacing to the lining fabric before sewing the three layers? I have been doing that and it seems to shift a litlle on susequent pressings and leave a little crease in the side of my Maggie. Should I be sewing it all first and then fusing while pressing it all?
Secondly, does it really take 60 seconds to fuse the Velcro? My little Maggies seemed fine fbut I do notice that I need to re-fuse the larger one. Do you all fuse the body piece of velcro from the back (through all the layers) or do you stick the iron in the pocket – Is that clear as mud?!

Hi Rosemary, I fuse after sewing and turning right sides out. The fusible is fused to the cover fabric for a nice crisp look. If your fabric has a lot of sizing/chemicals on the surface, use a wet cloth and wipe the area first. Let that dry, then fuse the Velcro in place. I give it a shot of steam first from both sides, then I place the iron on a piece of cotton as a pressing cloth on top of the Velcro. Joan
I am about to recieve the pattern for the Maggie bag, and I can’t wait. I hope to use it this year for the ladies I work with at church.
I may also make some of the wonder wallets, because I have several in my purse to let me know at the grocery store, or at the doctors, which one has what I need in it.
I keep my license (this makes airport ID much easier) , and my insurance cards, AAA, and ARRP cards in one also.

Debra, my fabric is Prairie Paisley by Moda. I love that line. This little Maggie lets me use all my leftover pieces from some of my favorite fabrics that just aren’t big enough to do something with. Now I can!!

I’ve got at 10 Maggies in the works right now and I’m not sure how many wonder wallets. Thank you so much for coming up with this pattern. I love being able to put something together so quickly to give away as last minute gifts! I’m looking forward to all the wonderful creations you develop for the New Year!
