A Cute-As-Can-Be Purse And Coordinating Skirt
Lazies, Lazy Girl Jeannie of Florida made this adorable Chloe Handbag (LGD120) and coordinating skirt for her granddaughter. Jeannie did two things I want to share with you today. But first a little from Jeannie about her projects.
Chloe and a coordinating skirt.
Here’s Jeannie
Ladies, I made a skirt for my granddaughter and a matching Chloe. I got to use the new tabs and they are great!!! and easy to use. I also put the zip pocket on which my granddaughter loves!! She will probably fill the bag with Webkins!!! Oh and I also have a pink one to make but she said I can make the bag different each time!!!
I started sewing in the 60’s sewing patterns for manikins then for my daughter after she was born. Stopped sewing in the 80’s, started quilting in the late 90’s and then my daughter wanted a few tote bags for my granddaughter’s teachers and I started with the Wonder Wallet and the Whimsy Bag and have been addicted since and that was just before Thanksgiving of last year!!!
My granddaughter thought the Chloe was her size and decided she wanted a skirt and bag to match. She is only 7 but has a mind of her own!!! Anyway it all worked out very cute I thought and we have another one in the works. I enjoy these patterns because they make sewing fun again!! THANK YOU!!

Two Pockets In One
This is a great tip. If you have our Perfect Pouches (LGD113) pattern, simply make a pouch for the size pocket you want. Leave the batting out of the pouch project. Then treat the finished zippered pouch as a patch pocket and topstitch it in place on your project.
Stitch along all four edges, or simply both side edges and the bottom edge. By stitching three sides, leaving the top edge detached from your project, you’ve created a pocket behind the pouch as well.
I usually include a Perfect Pouches pocket inside my bag, attached to the lining. Be sure to stabilize the stitching area with interfacing or an extra bit of fabric behind the lining.
Perfect Placement
It’s easy to find the perfect placement to embellish the outside of the Chloe Handbag. The pattern includes a template of the bag, allowing you to locate and attach your embellishments while the bag is still a flat piece of fabric. In this case, the zip pocket is an embellishment.
Handy Tabs
Jeannie also had a chance to try our new line of Handy Tabs in ‘White Rice’ with this project. I think the white tabs coordinate nicely with her fabric choices.

Would Jeannie share what pattern she used for her skirt? What an adorable outfit.
I loved this idea of the skirt and the handbag. I do have a question. I live in the Nashville, TN area and want to know where I can find or where I can order the tabs for the purse handles?
Hi Judy,
Check with your local quilt shop, or shop online. The following retailers are stocking all of the Handy Tab colors:
The Cotton Vault
Quilter’s Warehouse
Fabric Lovers Unite
Chamonix Broderie
Sew Thankful

Oh I soo wish I had a little girl to sew for! That is just adorable, you did a great job and I am sure she just loves anything grandma makes! Can’t wait to see the pink outfit! The Handy Tabs are great. Thanks so much for sharing with us Jeannie and the pouch on the front of the Chloe is a great idea, I have made several and find that I over stuff them at times.

What a precious combination. I have two Granddaughters living with me and even though they are a little young right now, I know they would love to have your outfit. So this is a definite keeper for me. I would love to have the pattern for the skirt. Thanks for sharing this project.
I am interested in the Whimsy bag that Jeannie is talking about. Do you know if that pattern has been retired or if it also called something else?
Hi Lori,
The Whimsy Bag LGD206 is one of our most loved patterns. I should have included a link in the post.
You can see Whimsy here, about 2/3rds of the way down the page:

Thanks!

Oh soooo cute! I have made a Chloe, it is a cute little purse. Perfect size for a little girl too. I love the perfect pocket on the outside. I also want to add I like the way she topstitched the handy tabs to the very top of the purse, My handles on my Chloe are only attached at where the lining meets the outside, and when I pickup the bag the lining pulls up even when the bag is full. So I topstitched along the outside of the bag (following the seam line of the lining/outside) to keep the lining from pulling out of the bag…But Jeannie’s idea is top notch!
Hi Cindy,
I think the last part of Step 8 in the Chloe pattern includes directions to secure the handles/tabs at the top edge of the bag.
I’d love to see a pic of your project!
Joan
Really? DUH on that one…lol I guess I didn’t read far enough! Thanks Joan!

Is that not the skirt pattern from the current issue of Quilts and More magazine, called Flirty Skirt?
My question is, what fabric is it, it matches so well and is darling!!
This combo was just so well done, I loved looking at it. The fabridc makes it. Thanks for posting!
Ladies, thank you for your kind remarks!! Using Joans patterns are way too much fun!
The skirt is the Flirty Skirts in Summer 2008 Quilts and More.
I have no idea what line the fabric is on the skirt. I did get it at my local quilt shop and will be going there today and I will surly look and let you know.
Jeannie
I called the shop and the name of the skirt fabric is Dreaming of Roses by Henry Glass Co. It’s storming to bad to go out today!!
Hope this helps, Jeannie
How sweet of you to get this information for us so fast! I plan to make this very outfit! It is just too darling! I will be looking for the fabric right now, the softness of it and the pattern and colors are right on,lucky little girl!!! I make the Wonder Wallet for the webkinz Trading Cards!
I love all your patterns and ideas. Keep them rolling. Thanks
